Which side of that line your particular address falls on decides whether the ice barrier is required, and it is worth establishing before anyone gives you a number, because it is not a trivial line item.

We pull the permit as part of the job.
Does my roof need an ice barrier?
It depends on your elevation. PPRBD requires an eave ice barrier on properties above 7,000 ft — at least two layers of underlayment cemented together, or a self-adhering polymer-modified bitumen sheet, running from the eave edge to 24 inches inside the exterior wall line. Woodland Park is well above that line; Colorado Springs and Fountain are below it; Monument sits about 18 feet under it, so it comes down to your specific address.

How do I know whether hail actually damaged my roof?
Usually you cannot tell from the ground, which is the problem. Hail bruising on asphalt shingles is often invisible from the driveway and obvious from four feet away. That is what the free inspection is for, and photographs taken before anything is touched are worth a great deal if a claim follows.
